The business side of things

Most photographers come to realize pretty quickly that there is much more to being a photographer than just taking photos. A lot more. It is a business, like it or not. So one has to have some business sense or have a business consultant to help you get better at the business end of things. Enter the realm of Clemens Rettich.
He and I have been working together on my business and he wanted to interview me for his "Up at Night" interviews with business owners series. I was quite flattered. So we got together at Longevity John's Garage Showcase Theatre in Duncan for the interview and photos.
The lighting arrangement was really quite simple. Two lights, one acting as the projector from the projector room. The other lighting Clemens and myself from the front. You can guess the rest, like who took the photos... Actually Clemens and I both took the photos.

You can read his interview by following this link :)

This last photo is one I wanted to do just for the fun of it.

Thanks to Clemens for coaching me on achieving greater success in business and for this opportunity in the spotlight :)

Under the Influence

We are all influence by something. In work or in life. I have always admired the photography in National Geographic Magazine. I remember looking through my grandma's collection was I was a kid. As an adult, I actually enjoy sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office so I can sift through their old copies of NatGeo (National Geographic).
Recently some of my work was compared to NatGeo style which really made my day. Not that I have been trying to emulate this as there really is no way to - NatGeo receives photos from many, many photographers who all have a similar style in telling a story in a photo. This is something I like and try to do with my work.
Although most of my photos are more portrait based, I try to have the subject interacting with the environment to some degree. And now, thanks to my lovely wife, I have my own subscription of NatGeo to enjoy! More good influence...
The above photos are mine. The ones below are from NatGeo just so you can see if there is anything to this :)
