Put your best face on!

Last Saturday was a really fun night! Nina and I got a sitter and had full (meaning: out for dinner and back past midnight) evening out for the first time since, well maybe two years ago. Maybe longer. Life changes when you have kids :)
We went to the Young Professionals of Cowichan, Masquerade Dinner/Dance, where there was a silent auction fundraiser. As a member of the YPC, I was asked to set up a photo-booth and money from this went to the YPC community account. The YPC puts money back into the Cowichan Valley where needed so all the money raised this night was going to a good cause.
See if you can spot anyone you know in the photos below. I'm not going to name names...

Except here (I'm naming names). I was able to get a volunteer to take a shot of me and my beautiful wife. Not very often I get a photo of myself!
And this is when I decided it was time to start packing up the gear. When the drunk faces are all that's left, you might as well call it a night and join everyone else on the dance floor!
Thanks to everyone who participated. If your photo is`n't here don't worry. I have it. This is just a peak into what happened Saturday night, thanks to a group of motivated young professionals in the Cowichan Valley!

Down by the Bay

I am still trying to catch up with fun photos I have taken recently. Summer is a busy time and once school starts again in September and the little ones are out of the house for a few hours, the catching up begins.
Going way back to August, I did a memorable photo session for the Cools family. It was memorable for a few reasons:
-I chose when and where I wanted to do the photos (based on their suggestions :) This way I had control of the light, background and general feel.
-I had a new camera to adjust to.
-I was using a more stripped-down approach to lighting.
-The emotion and love captured was incredible!

So I'm not going to say much more. I think these photos pretty much sum up what I witnessed and hoped to capture for the Cools family.

Thanks to the Cools family for a great evening in Cowichan Bay!

A Little Fun

I have to say that I like cars but I don't love cars. They are really just tools for moving me, my family and my camera gear around. But some cars are just fun! My friend Todd at Bowmel Chrysler asked me if I wanted a Fiat 500 overnight. I know he wanted my wife to fall in love with the car (and probably buy it) but she didn't have much time to drive it. I, on the other hand, had a flexible schedule which allowed me a little time to drive the Fiat and take some photos.
First, I must point out the price tag in the lower left side of the car's windshield. I left it there for this photo but in another version of this photo it is photoshopped out. No one is going to "borrow" this copy :)

We have had some foggy, dark mornings this week which made for some good moody shots.

Some of the little details of the Fiat are pretty cool.

Simple and classy interior.

A fun little car that is worlds away from my Dodge Grand Caravan!

Most of these shots were just done in the nice soft natural light. The first photo was more of a process with a few lights on it for a more dramatic look.
So that was my fun this week with a subject that didn't blink or tell me how self-conscious they were about photos of them self. What a change :)
