Young Leaders

I was flattered to be asked to be the official photographer for the Leaders of Tomorrow - Cowichan awards night, which was held just this past Friday.
The awards for for youth who have gone above and beyond in some way as to be recognised for their efforts. This is a quality that future leaders must have and therefore, the awards :)
It was pretty cool to see all these happy kids and their beaming parents!
My little studio was set up in the corner of this large reception hall and after the recipients had their awards in hand, they would make their way over to me for their shot.

Scroll through and enjoy the show :)

This young lady had the greatest expression of joy, earning herself a second photo :)

It felt so good to be connected to such a positive youth initiative. I've already been asked back for next year and I can't wait!

Tasty

Duncan has a new celebrity, in case you didn't already know. Dan Hudson has in a very short period of time, become a very busy man. He recently opened a fine dining restaurant in town, Hudson's on First, located on First Street. Wonder how he thought up the name ;) and he and his wife, Andrea, just had a baby girl, Mylee and he is a TV star on the currently running Top Chef Canada series. Busy, busy times!

I caught up with Dan one morning while he was preparing the day's lunch menu. It was interesting setting up lighting in a working kitchen. Its hard enough to stay out of everyone's way, add in lighting and it is really hard to stay out of everyone's way...

My goal was to catch some action shots of the food prep and then take some more posed shots.

After the posed shots were done, I packed up and left for a while, only to return at lunch time when the action was full swing. For this, there was no way I was going to use lighting - way to dangerous as people were buzzing around like busy bees getting lunch out to the diners.
It just so happened that the lights in the kitchen provided a pretty cool effect when I looked around and composed it right.

And that, my friends, is a behind the scene look at Hudson's on First. For those who have not been yet, go and experience it for yourself. It is truly unique fine dining!
